‘‘Small changes in many lead to big changes for our people and planet.’’
— Mika Horward
So, I want to change the world. Big words, but I do. I believe that there is too much unnecessary waste, too much poverty and people trying to live paycheck-by-paycheck as they strive for a better future. I believe that my dedication, and IKEA as my foundation, I can play a role in changing this world. I want people to stop wasting materials and live a better, carefree future on a healthy planet.
I believe that my ambition of becoming a Product Recovery Specialist, with the high ambition of working towards becoming a Chief Sustainability Officer can be a big step forward in bringing this change to the world.
Present day, what interests me the most is:
Recylcing Rate
-
As it says, recycling. Day by day, you see it on the streets, in business practice and even at home. Materials, whether its food, electronics, plastics or anything of the sorts are unnecessarily wasted. I wish to make a difference giving each cubic centimetre of material purpose for as long as possible. These materials are finite, and I want people to make the most of them.
Circular Revenue
-
One of the aspects of making these materials last as long as possible is circular revenue. Each singular euro that is spent in our circular hub is a contribution towards making materials last longer than they otherwise would. I want to make a difference by making sure that more people understand the importance of, at times, buying second-hand. It's as good as new!
Social impact & change makers
-
Focusing on people that experience (or are at risk of experiencing) poverty or social exclusion is one of the major goals I have always wanted to be a part of making a difference in. I believe that everyone should be able to live their life in a way that is without social/financial stress or burden. I wish to help with these social initiatives, to, in a very special way, create a better everyday life for the many.
Starting with these changes, I believe I can in due time motivate people around me to not only join me in this ambition of change. But, also share their ambitions in an outspoken manner as well. Shared inspiration through speech is a big drive for people to actually pursue that motivation.
Sincerely
Mika Horward
